The Bartlett Police Department now confirms they have arrested the driver who caused a school bus to roll over.
The accident took place near Oak Avenue on Route 20. The 8:55am accident that involved a School District U46 school bus took place when a vehicle hit the bus causing it to land on its side, after hitting a fence in the Oaks neighborhood, the Elgin School District reported.
The School bus driver was seriously injured. He was rushed to St Alexius Medical Centre in Hoffman. He was admitted at the hospital as he had attained a head injury.
The second driver escaped from the scene of the accident on foot. For the next several hours, security was tightened around the nearby schools and the general neighborhood as they searched for the missing driver. This restricted the amount of learning and activities that could take place in the schools and other institutions as the search continued.
According to the Elgin School District, the schools that were placed in “secure building” action are Centre for Early learning, Bartley Elementary School and Eastview Middle School. U46 through the District Safety Coordinator, John Heiderscheidt further updated the parents via its email messaging services and Facebook group, informing them that there were no more risks in the schools as the driver has been arrested.Last Modified September 7, 2012 || Tags: bus crash, Elgin School District, Oak Avenue
